Iberville’s Bayou Choctaw bridge closing for repairs

The Bayou Choctaw bridge on La. 404 in southern Iberville Parish will be closed Monday to Friday for repairs.

During the closure, workers will install new bridge pilings and other infrastructure to better support the bridge deck, according to a state Department of Transportation and Development news release issued Friday.

“This work was deemed necessary after our bridge crew performed a routine inspection,” Dustin Annison, a DOTD spokesman, said.

The bridge west of White Castle is part of one primary alternative route if La. 70 South were closed near a 13-acre sinkhole in Assumption Parish, parish officials noted. Other, longer routes would still be available.

La. 70 South remains open to traffic, but concerns about the sinkhole’s proximity to La. 70 has prompted DOTD to separately study the construction of new alternative routes.

The detour around the La. 404 bridge closure is La. 75 north to La. 1 south to La. 993 south to La. 404, DOTD officials said.
