Advocate staff report April 11, 2013 Comments Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed April as Autism Awareness Month in Ascension Parish. President Martinez read the proclamation March 19 during a Parish Council meeting, which was attended by several residents in support of the proclamation. Sandra Trammell, an autism resource specialist with the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders/Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, accepted the proclamation. Trammell said the fourth annual Active For Autism 5K Run/Walk will be held from 8 a.m. to noon April 13 at the State Police Training Grounds at Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge. Trammell said last year’s event raised more than $100,000 for the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Trammell thanked Martinez and Ascension Parish government for their support of the Ascension Parish Inclusive League. “Because of that league, our kids have sports in our parish and they love the uniforms, they love the medals and they really love getting the medals,” Trammell said.
