Advocate staff report April 11, 2013 Comments Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez has proclaimed April 21 to April 27 as National Volunteer Week in Ascension Parish. Martinez read the proclamation aloud during the Parish Council’s March 19 meeting. The proclamation encourages volunteers to contact Volunteer Ascension to offer their names and talent to make a real difference in the lives of others. “I want to thank Volunteer Ascension for the job that they do here in our parish,” Martinez said. “Every time we, as a parish, have called upon them, they have been there. Every hurricane we’ve had, you all have been there to come and help us.” Volunteer Ascension representative Cathy Waggenspack-Landry announced the yearly Volunteer of the Year recognition luncheon will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 25 at the Clarion Inn on La. 30 in Gonzales.
