McCormick April 09, 2013 Comments Ascension Parish residents can learn about anticrime programs, see the tools law enforcement use and meet area officers during the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office National Night Out event Thursday at the Public Safety building on U.S. 61 in Gonzales. The program is set from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature crime prevention information, members of specialized Sheriff’s Office units, and personnel from Ascension Parish’s municipal police departments. Free jambalaya and cold drinks will be served. Benefit bingo Thursday A bingo benefit is slated Thursday to raise money for the Donaldsonville Area ARC Inc. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the ARC’s Bingo Night games start at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Home, 304 Memorial Drive, Donaldsonville. The event also is designed to raise awareness about Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The Donaldsonville Area ARC is “committed to enhancing choices for all people with Developmental Disabilities in terms of where they work, and recreate within the community while providing access to a variety of services and opportunities,” a news release from the agency says. State reps meeting reset A town hall meeting that was to be held Monday by members of the Ascension Parish legislative delegation has been rescheduled. Registration is under way for the meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Cabela’s, 2200 W. Cabela’s Parkway, Gonzales, hosted by state Reps. Ed Price, D-Gonzales; Johnny Berthelot, R-Gonzales; and Clay Schexnayder, R-Sorrento. The legislators will talk about what’s expected during the 2013 Legislature session. Seating is limited. Fairgrounds planning Plans for the South Louisiana Fairgrounds area will be discussed Tuesday during a meeting at Donaldsonville City Hall, 609 Railroad Ave. Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said the parish’s Recreation and Culture Department will hold a master plan community meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to discuss future plans for recreation activities at the old South Louisiana Fairgrounds property in Donaldsonville. Eric Poché, an engineer with SJB Group LLC, said the master plan process is being initiated to discuss utilizing the southern portion of the fairgrounds property. Discussion will include selection and location of recreational activities at that site, phasing and cost analysis, he said.
