National Night Out set for Thursday

Ascension Parish residents can learn about anticrime programs, see the tools law enforcement use and meet officers during the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office National Night Out from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Public Safety building on U.S. 61 in Gonzales.

The event will feature crime prevention information, members of specialized Sheriff’s Office units and personnel from Ascension Parish’s municipal police departments.

Free jambalaya and cold drinks will be served.

Donaldsonville ARC hosts bingo

A bingo benefit is slated Thursday to raise money for the Donaldsonville Area ARC Inc.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the ARC’s Bingo Night games start at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Home, 304 Memorial Drive, Donaldsonville.

The event is designed to raise awareness about Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

The Donaldsonville Area ARC is “committed to enhancing choices for all people with Developmental Disabilities in terms of where they work and recreate within the community while providing access to a variety of services and opportunities,” a news release from the agency says.

Celebrity chef
to cook at Tanger

Celebrity chef Curtis Stone is bringing his popular television cooking show to Tanger Outlet at 1 p.m. Saturday as part of the center’s Taste and Style Event.

Tanger is partnering with Stone to celebrate local gourmet food trucks. The event will feature live music and entertainment.

Soccer practice starts Saturday

Practice starts Saturday for the Donaldsonville Soccer Club.

Practices will be held at 9 a.m. for children ages 3 to 6 and at 10 a.m. for youth 7 to 12 at Lowery Elementary School. A second practice is set April 13.

Evening of Hope
to benefit group

Volunteer Ascension has moved its annual Fall Evening of Hope fundraiser to springtime.

Evening of Hope will be held at 7 p.m. April 11 at Parc 73 in Prairieville.

The fundraiser will feature wines, hors d’oeuvres, dessert bar, jewelry sale, a jazz band and auctions.

Admission will be $40 per person, $70 per couple, and $200 for six seats.

Council on Aging
to host health fair

The Ascension Council on Aging’s Senior Health Fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon April 26 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center gym.

Area health care providers and vendors will be on hand to provide seniors with information and services available for their health and personal needs.

“We are also teaming up with the Ascension Parish Recreation Department’s monthly lunch at noon and a senior Sock Hop will follow at 1 p.m.,” Nanette Daigle, with the COA, said.
