St. Theresa eighth-graders visit Youth Legislature program St. Theresa eighth-graders visit Youth Legislature program Advocate staff report April 04, 2013 Comments St. Theresa Middle School eighth-graders attended the Youth Legislature hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge. Youth Legislature is a program that introduces students to the legislative process, allowing students to run for office and write and sponsor their own bills. Along with classroom instruction with Aimee Burruss, the students participated with other area schools in the two-day mock legislative session held at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge. The students were encouraged to run for governor and offices in the House of Representatives and Senate. St. Theresa Middle student Allison Waguespack was elected president of the Senate. All students debated and voted on bills which were drafted by fellow legislators. Sponsoring successful legislation were students Madeline Lato, Trisha Hodges, Kennedie Bordelon, Gino Sclafani, Evelyn Hinojosa, Lauren LeBourgeois, Jacob Decoteau, Jeremy Sapia, Taylor Empson, Brandon Foncre, Peyton Babin, Cameron White, Pierce Brown, Hannah Poirrier, Grant Alonzo and Matthew Tortorich.
