Sun Devils youth team  raising money for trip

Members of the Ascension Sun Devils baseball team are planning several fundraisers to pay for a trip to the Cooperstown Dreams Park and American youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament in June in Cooperstown, N.Y., a team spokeswoman said.

In addition to play in a tournament during the week of June 22, the team will be enshrined in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame, a news release from Cooperstown Dreams Park says.

To pay for the trip, the group is having several fundraisers, including hosting a one-day Easter Eggstravaganza tournament at Steven’s Park Saturday. All teams can register on USSSA website, http://www.usssabaseball.org, or call (225) 402-8816.

The team is also selling jambalaya lunches April 13 at the Athletic Center in Gonzales and Sam’s Club, 10444 N. Mall Drive, Baton Rouge.

From June 1 to Aug. 30, Cooperstown Dreams Park plans for more than 100 teams a week to take part in tournaments through its “Tournament of Champions” program, a news release says.

Since 1996, the Cooperstown Dreams Park Experience offers players a chance to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame, trade pins and compete with players from around the U.S. for weekly national titles. The park has 22 fields on a 150-acre complex.
