Advocate staff report April 04, 2013 Comments Members of the Ascension Sun Devils baseball team are planning several fundraisers to pay for a trip to the Cooperstown Dreams Park and American youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament in June in Cooperstown, N.Y., a team spokeswoman said. In addition to play in a tournament during the week of June 22, the team will be enshrined in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame, a news release from Cooperstown Dreams Park says. To pay for the trip, the group is having several fundraisers, including hosting a one-day Easter Eggstravaganza tournament at Steven’s Park Saturday. The team is also selling jambalaya lunches April 13 at the Athletic Center in Gonzales and Sam’s Club, 10444 N. Mall Drive, Baton Rouge. From June 1 to Aug. 30, Cooperstown Dreams Park plans for more than 100 teams a week to take part in tournaments through its “Tournament of Champions” program, a news release says. Since 1996, the Cooperstown Dreams Park Experience offers players a chance to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame, trade pins and compete with players from around the U.S. for weekly national titles. The park has 22 fields on a 150-acre complex.
