After 10 years of holding successful events, the parish recreation department has agreed to take over the events. Advocate staff report March 13, 2013 Comments The Ascension Parish Recreation Department is taking over the organization of the annual National Football League’s Punt Pass and Kick Competition and Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition held in Donaldsonville, Parish President Tommy Martinez said in a news release. Ajia Mitchell, program coordinator with the Ascension Parish Recreation Department, said Mark Peters, director of Hope Youth Development, has passed the torch to Mitchell and parish recreation leading the way for continued competition. “After 10 years of doing a great job heading these two events, Ascension Parish will take over where Director Peters and Hope Youth Development have forged the way,” Mitchell said. “We will continue this effort to keep kids involved and physically active in our community.” Mitchell said the dates for both competitions are being finalized and will be announced at a later date.
