Ashley Brown, an English language arts teacher, was named Dutchtown Middle School’s Teacher of the Year.

Brown was interviewed by Dutchtown Middle School yearbook reporters Melissa Landry, Alex Acheson And Hannah Bergeron.

“It is an honor in itself to work with such a talented group of people at Dutchtown Middle School,” she told the reporters.

Brown, who has been teaching since 2008, said her favorite Christmas present as a child was a chalk and marker board.

“I used to play school for hours and force the neighborhood kids to be the students,” she said.

Her teaching process is to begin each lesson by finding out what her students already know and building on background knowledge, the reporters said.

“I love to have my students explore ideas and concepts through group discussions,” Brown said. “Learning is a journey we take together.”

She is a middle school teacher. Should be seventh grade. I would know she is my wife and I am so proud of all her hard work and dedication.
