In order to vote, students had to read and pass an Accelerated Reader test on three of the 12 nominated titles. This year's voters were treated to lunch from Raising Cane's. This year's winner at Central Middle School was 'Ninth Ward' by Jewel Parker Rhodes.

Matthew Waguespack was also named to the team. Athletes must maintain a 3.5 or higher grade point average to make the team. Dutchtown High School football coach Benny Saia said this was the most Dutchtown students named to the team in school history.
