4-H livestock show to start Thursday 4-H livestock show to start Thursday Advocate staff report Jan. 16, 2013 Comments Animals are taking over the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center starting Thursday as the annual Ascension Parish 4-H Livestock shows get under way. In addition to the cows, pigs, chickens, lambs and goats displayed by 4-H members, the Ascension Parish 4-H Club hosts its annual pet show at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s 4-H building Thursday. Registration for the pet show is at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 6 p.m. The show is open to all Ascension Parish 4-H members. The main categories are cats, dogs and other pets, which can include anything from a snake to a hamster. Children and their pets can win prizes in several categories including longest tail, brightest color and best dressed. All contestants will be charged a $1 entry fee. Proceeds from the concession stand benefit the Ascension Parish 4-H Livestock Club. The Ascension Parish 4-H annual Stick Horse Rodeo will be held Friday at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s 4-H building. Registration is at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. The show is open to all youth 11 years old and younger. The stick horse rodeo has a $5 entry fee. The livestock show continues through 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free to see the competition.
