January 24 is the deadline for residents to order from the seven varieties produced by its Sweet Potato Research Station. All varieties are certified to be free of viruses, Craig Roussel, Ascension/ St. James horticulture agent, said. The varieties available are Beauregard Clone B-63, Beauregard Clone B-14, Evangeline, O’ Henry, Hernandez, Porto Rican and Jewel. The costs of a 40-pound box of seed potatoes are $16.50 for Beauregard, $18.50 for Evangeline, and $25.00 for all other varieties. Call (225) 621-5799 for ordering information.
