Thanksgiving event set at First Baptist
First Baptist Church in Gonzales is hosting its second Feed the Community Thanksgiving Day luncheon starting at 11 a.m. in the church hall, 1217 S. Burnside.
The traditional Thanksgiving Day meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.
Area residents seeking a hot holiday meal are invited, a church spokeswoman said.
Government offices to close for holiday
All Ascension Parish governmental offices and departments will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, a news release from the Parish President’s Office states.
Ascension Parish governmental offices and departments will reopen at their normal hours Monday.
‘Teen Mike Night’ set in Dutchtown
The Ascension Parish Library is looking for talented teens who want to perform.
The library’s Dutchtown branch is holding its popular Teen Mike Night from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27.
Teens can perform 10 minutes of material or two songs in front of an audience.
Residents are invited to listen to the area teens.
No registration is required, but time is limited. Refreshments are provided.

Holiday market set at Lamar-Dixon
The third annual Jolly Jingles Holiday Market is coming Dec. 1 to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
The market, which opens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature 100 booths selling a wide variety items.
The event also includes free gifts to the first 500 shoppers, a free kid zone featuring inflatables, and Santa’s workshop, where children can write letters to Santa.
Santa is expected to arrive at 1 p.m.
A winter wonderland will be filled with Christmas-themed inflatables. Bring your camera to take photos with the larger-than-life blow-up characters, said organizer Kelly Kriger.

Business startup counseling available
Ascension Parish Library and SCORE–Baton Rouge offer free, on-site counseling in Ascension Parish for new business start-ups and mentoring for existing businesses.
Counseling sessions are held the first Tuesday morning and third Tuesday afternoon each month by appointment at the library in Gonzales.
SCORE, a nonprofit association and a resource partner of the Small Business Administration, is dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide, a news release from the library states.
