Hospital accountant receives honor
The Healthcare Financial Management Association awarded Sue Knight of St. Elizabeth Hospital the certification of “Fellow,” a marker of leadership and professionalism, a news release states.
Knight, an HFMA member since 1997 and HFMA Louisiana Chapter participant, earned the designation “by demonstrating a significant level of expertise, service and commitment to transforming the health care finance industry,” Jay Keltner, a spokesman for the HFMA, said in a news release.
Knight is the chief operating officer for St. Elizabeth Hospital and St. Elizabeth Physicians. Knight, employed by St. Elizabeth Hospital since Aug. 1, 2000, is a certified public accountant and has been recognized as a chartered global management accountant, the release states.
“We recognize Sue as a leader who has demonstrated a depth of expertise that is critical to shaping our future,” HFMA President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer said. “Earning this distinction signifies a commitment of excellence and dedication to make a positive change in our industry.”
The FHFMA certification is the organization’s most elite professional certification, the release states.
To qualify for the FHFMA distinction, the release states, an applicant must: be a certified health care financial professional; be an HFMA member for at least five years; complete a bachelor’s degree or 120 semester hours from an accredited college or university; and volunteer in HFMA or the industry. Fewer than 1,200 individuals have received this honor in the organization’s 65- year history.
