Education gardening series set for Tuesday

The Ascension Parish Master Gardeners Association is offering a three-part educational series on fall gardening and landscaping.

The workshops, for novice and advanced gardeners, will be held at branches of the Ascension Parish Library.

The first class is set for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the library’s Dutchtown branch. Eddie Vigil, an East Baton Rouge Parish Master Gardener, will discuss turning garden trash into garden art. Besides being economical and beneficial to the environment, reusing garden discard to create garden art can be an enjoyable, creative pastime. Call (225) 673-8699 to register.

Janis Poche, past president of the Ascension Parish Master Gardeners, will discuss “Top Ten Tips for Top-Notch Gardens” at an Oct. 9 program at the Galvez library branch.

Assisted by other local master gardeners Poche will share some tricks of the trade at the 6:30 p.m. class. Call (225) 622-3339 to register.

“Super Plants for Superior Gardens” is the topic of the 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 program at the library’s Gonzales location.

Allen Owings, professor of horticulture at the LSU Agricultural Center and the Hammond Research Station, will discuss super plants for superior gardens. Call (225) 647-3955 to register.
