Youth football kicks off in Ascension Parish on Saturday with the Ascension Cougars Youth Sports Organization’s Fifth annual Youth Football Jamboree.
The Ascension Cougars, Galvez Tigers, Prairieville Broncos, Denham Springs Yellow Jackets and Bayou Lafourche Raiders will start play at 8 a.m. at the East Ascension High School football practice field on Irma Boulevard.
Election jobs available
Residents interested in serving as election commissioners can register for upcoming classes needed for the jobs, Clerk of Court Kermit Hart Bourque said.
The Clerk of Court’s Office will conduct schools to certify new election commissioners and re-certify all commissioners whose certification expired on June 30, Bourque said.
The Gonzales sessions will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 28, Aug. 29, Aug. 30, Sept. 5 and Sept. 10 at the courthouse annex building on Irma Boulevard.
Donaldsonville sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4, Sept. 6 and Sept. 11 at the courthouse.
Attendance is required at one session only, he said.
A certified commissioner who serves on election day will receive $200, he said.
Any qualified voter who is not entitled to assistance in voting and is not a candidate in the election may be selected as a commissioner provided that he or she has been certified through successful attendance at commissioner’s school, Bourque said.

DHS Class of ’72 to meet
The Donaldsonville High School Class of 1972 has scheduled a meeting to plan its 40th reunion celebration.
The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Donaldsonville branch of the Ascension Parish Library.
The class reunion is scheduled for Dec. 26 at the Grapevine Café & Gallery in Donaldsonville.

Lacrosse clinic Aug. 25
Learn the skills needed to play lacrosse at a free lacrosse skills clinic on Aug. 25.
The Dutchtown Lacrosse club is holding the clinic from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
The clinic is open to boys in eighth to 12th grades and experience is not necessary.
The Dutchtown Lacrosse Club will be holding registration in late September for the upcoming season.
The clinic is free but online registration is recommended.
