Twin brothers killed in one-vehicle crash
ST. JAMES — Twin brothers were killed in a crash Saturday morning on U.S. 61 south of Interstate 10 after their car veered off the highway and into a nearby bayou, a State Police spokesman said Sunday.
Drew J. Bourgeois, 26, of Mount Airy, was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6 south on U.S. 61 with his twin brother, Darryl Bourgeois, as a passenger, Trooper First Class Russell Graham said. The vehicle veered left into the median and began to spin, crossing over the northbound lanes and into the bayou, Graham said.
Both men, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle, which sank in the bayou, Graham said.
Rescue divers with the Gonzales Fire Department and St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office found the bodies and the car Sunday morning, Graham said.
A family member called the St. James Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, concerned because the two men had been missing since Saturday morning, Graham said.
Troopers do not believe impairment was a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
