St. Mark Catholic Church’s Light Lane Festival starts at 6 p.m. Friday with food, carnival rides, bingo, music and a silent action.
Kenny Fife is set to play at 8 p.m. Friday.
The fair, held on the church grounds in Gonzales, continues at 8 a.m. Saturday with a car show, jambalaya mini-pot cooking contest, food and music.
Saturday’s musical lineup includes River Jordan at 2:30 p.m., the Side Effects Band at 5 p.m. and Steve and Mike Broussard and friends at 8 p.m.
Things get started on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and the fair closes at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Recycling event Saturday
The Ascension Parish Recycling Road Show will be held Saturday at the Walmart in Prairieville.
A recycling vehicle will be stationed in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Legion Hall dedication set
American Legion Howard Johnson Post 557 in Gonzales will hold a building rededication ceremony and brunch starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at its Toby Avenue location.
All veterans and area officials are invited to attend, event organizer Sonia Mulberry-Percle said.
Health classes planned
The Community Education Department of St. Elizabeth Hospital is offering a number of presentations in May.
Seats are available for the weekly Loss and Grief Education and Support Meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17, May 24 and May 31 in the hospital’s Sister Vernola conference room.
The event is free and registration is preferred.
“Look Good, Feel Better,” a class offered for the women undergoing cancer treatment, will be held Monday. Experienced cosmetologists teach cancer patients beauty tips to help minimize the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
The class is from 10 a.m. to noon and advance reservations are required.
A free skin cancer screening for anyone who has not had a skin cancer screening by a physician in the past 12 months will be offered from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Plaza II, Suite 1040.

Ascension Idol finals set
The final round of the Ascension Idol contest is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Gonzales Civic Center.
The singing competition is a fundraiser for the Ascension Fund.
Finalists from Dutchtown, Donaldsonville, East Ascension and St. Amant high schools will be competing.

CASA schedules training
Child Advocacy Services is looking for volunteers for its next Court Appointed Special Advocates training program.
CASA spokesman Krisy McAdams said CASA training for Ascension Parish volunteers will begin at 6 p.m. June 12 at the Child Advocacy Services office, 1026 E. Worthey Road, Suite C, Gonzales.
