Pedestrian struck
Gonzales — Louisiana State Police said Saturday they were investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in Ascension Parish.
The incident, which happened about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on La. 30 west of Gonzales near Ashland Road, killed Christian Salinas, 32, of Houston, Texas, according to a news release.
The driver of the truck involved, Aaron Dunbar, 41, of Harvey, was not found to be at fault in the accident, according to the report.
Dunbar had been driving his 2012 Volvo tractor west when he saw Salinas suddenly step into his path but was “unable to avoid striking him,” according to the release.
Dunbar pulled over and called authorities to report the accident immediately, the release said.
Troopers suspect alcohol to be a factor for Salinas, and have submitted his blood sample for testing.
Troopers did not suspect alcohol to be a factor for Dunbar, but he did voluntarily submit a breath sample that showed he was sober, according to the release.
There were no charges or citations resulting from the incident, according to the release.
