Former LSU running back faces sexual battery charge
GONZALES — Ascension Parish prosecutors have brought a charge of sexual battery against former LSU running back Charles Scott, court records say.
Scott, 23, 36604 Plantation Blvd., Prairieville, is set for arraignment at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Ascension Parish Courthouse Annex in Gonzales, according to a notice.
At the arraignment, Scott is expected to enter a plea.
Assistant District Attorney Robin O’Bannon filed a bill of information against Scott on Monday.
The bill accuses Scott of sexual battery on Nov. 13 against a woman identified only by her initials.
Scott was arrested Nov. 13 on a count of simple rape of an 18-year-old woman. The arrest came after Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Scott’s Prairieville home, deputies reported at the time.
Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said Scott has been out on $35,000 bail since Nov. 14.
Sexual battery is a less-severe charge than the simple-rape count on which Scott was arrested.
Conviction on a simple-rape count can bring up to a 25-year prison sentence. Conviction for sexual battery can typically bring up to 10 years, though some special conditions can lead to a far-stiffer sentence.
Scott was a former Louisiana high school Mr. Football at Jonesboro-Hodge High School. His best season at LSU was his first of two as a starter in 2008, when he rushed for 1,174 yards on 217 carries, while leading the SEC with 18 rushing touchdowns in an all-SEC season.
His 2,317 career yards makes him seventh on LSU’s career rushing list.
He was picked in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and spent parts of two seasons on the practice squads of the Eagles, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants.
