--Free Glaucoma Screenings: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Gonzales Walmart. The Gonzales Lions Club is joining with Dr. Eva Lamendola to offer free glaucoma screenings. Lamendola said the screenings are designed for anyone at high risk of developing glaucoma.
--Black History Month Biography Database Program: 4 p.m., Ascension Parish Library, Gonzales and Dutchtown branches. Library to provide assistance to youth looking into the history of blacks in America. Also set for 4 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Donaldsonville and Galvez branches. Refreshments will be served. --War of the Pews: 6:30 p.m., Ascension Parish Library, Donaldsonville. The Rev. Jerome LeDoux, priest with St. Augustine Catholic Church, to talk about his book. --Small Business Consulting Program: By appointment, Ascension Parish Library, Galvez branch. Small-business owners can take advantage of the free business consulting the library offers on the second Monday of each month in Galvez and the second Wednesday of each month in Donaldsonville. Residents wanting to start or improve a small business receive private, two-hour consulting sessions designed to provide professional help in areas of financing, marketing and accounting. Potential small-business owners can obtain individualized, detailed assistance in areas including business plan development, financial projections, marketing, licensing requirements and site selection. This service is sponsored by the Ascension Parish Library and is a partnership program with the U. S. Small Business Administration, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A & M College. --Ascension Skate Park grand opening: Noon, Irma Boulevard, Gonzales. Grand opening ceremony and skating competitions. Food will be served.
Monday
--Anti-Valentine’s Day Party: 4 p.m., Ascension Parish Library, Donaldsonville and Gonzales, branches. A fun, kissing-free environment to create anti-conversation hearts, butcher romance novel cover art, and compete to crown the best break-up letter author, all to the sugar-free sounds of decidedly unromantic music. Open to teens in sixth grade and older.
