March 2 is the deadline to register for the LEAP 21 test for non-public school students planning to attend Ascension Parish public schools in August, school officials said.

Fourth- or eighth-grade students who are attending non-public schools and plan to enroll in a public school class in August must take the test, Linda Honey,. district test coordinator for Ascension Parish Schools, said in a news release.

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has approved two different phases for the LEAP test, she said. Participation in both phases is required.

“First- time fourth- and eighth-grade students must score at least a basic in one subject and approaching basic in the other subject in order to be promoted to fifth or ninth grade,” the release states.

Any student who fails to meet this requirement must attend and pass summer school, retake the test in the summer and obtain applicable passing scores, according to the release.

The test will be administered at Gonzales Middle School, 1502 W. Orice Roth Road, Gonzales.
