The event is the signature fundraiser for Miles Perret Cancer Services, which helps families whose loved ones have cancer. More than 60 family-oriented games and activities — from “Monster Spider Jumps” to “Quarterback Pass” — will take place Saturday. Opening ceremonies feature a survivors walk, which honors cancer survivors and those living with the disease. Blacksmith at market Sam Riehl will give a live demonstration on blacksmithing Saturday at the Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market, on the grounds of the Horse Farm on Johnston Street. Riehl, who began metalworking at age 8, remains the youngest professional blacksmith in the country. Riehl will begin his freshman year at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Nonprofits begin toy drive Two Acadia Parish nonprofits have started accepting toys to give poor children at Christmas. The Cardinal Community Development Corporation and And God Said Ministries Inc. are aiming to provide 500 to 1,000 children with toys. Donors can give in a number of ways: new toys for children 5 to 12 years old, gift cards or certificates to purchase toys, cash or in-kind services. Hospice benefits Hospice of Acadiana will host its Abbeville Fore Ball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Abbeville Country Club.
