Investigators arrested a New Iberia man Monday who told Wal-Mart employees he had a bomb in a duffel bag he was carrying before he rode away from the East Admiral Doyle store on a pink bicycle, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Johnall Lanieu, 49, was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, where he remained Tuesday, on one count of communicating false information of a planned arson.

Bond has not been set in the case, according to jail records.

Sheriff’s Capt. Ryan Turner said a store employee called deputies at 4:50 p.m. about a man who said he had a bomb inside the red and black duffle bag he was carrying.

Witnesses told detectives the suspect was wearing a white shirt, brown pants and a black hat that had a white towel underneath.

Lanieu was located a short distance away near Admiral Doyle and Weeks Street, Turner said, where he was questioned, then arrested.

Deputies found no explosives inside the duffel, he said.
