LAFAYETTE — Tom Sammons has been named director of the School of Architecture and Design at University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
Sammons has served as interim director of the school since June 2012.
He said his goals as director involve expansion of the graduate school and online course options.
“We intend to build on the strong foundation of design and achievement that UL Lafayette offers,” Sammons said.
A national search was conducted for the position; however, Sammons was “appointed because of his unique qualifications and leadership abilities,” said Gordon Brooks, dean of the College of the Arts.
Brooks said Sammons has been a key figure during the architecture program’s current re-accreditation process with the national Architectural Accrediting Board.
Sammons joined the university faculty in 1994 and is a professor of architecture. For the past 18 years, he has led the university’s Community Design Workshop, a program that offers senior architecture students real-world experience revitalizing communities.
