LAFAYETTE — Registration for summer openings begins Tuesday for the United Way of Acadiana’s Early Head Start Early Learning centers in Vermilion Parish and Lafayette.
The centers provide free early childhood education programs for qualifying families with infants and toddlers up to 3 years old. The program also offers prenatal services to pregnant women.
The Vermilion Parish center, at 802 S. St. Valerie St., is for Vermilion Parish residents who meet federal poverty income guidelines. The Lafayette center, at 1515 Jefferson St., is for families in the 70501 ZIP code who meet federal poverty income guidelines.
Space is limited at both locations and applications will be taken at the following locations:
- Lafayette: from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday and July 18, and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 15 at Northgate Mall, 1800 NE Evangeline Thruway; 8 a.m. to noon Friday at the Lafayette Parish Health Unit, 220 W. Willow St.
- Vermilion Parish: from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25 at the Vermilion Parish Library, 405 E. St. Victor St.; 8:30 a.m. to noon July 15 and July 29 at the Vermilion Parish Health Unit, 2501 Charity St.; noon to 4 p.m. July 16 at the Maurice Library, 100 E. Joseph St.; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 22 at the Kaplan Library, 815 N. Cushing Ave.; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 23 at the Erath Library, 111 E. Edward St.
Parents must show identification, the child’s birth certificate, child’s Social Security card, child’s immunization record, medical proof of child’s disability (if applicable), medical proof of pregnancy (if applicable), proof of income or student verification. That proof would include income tax Form 1040, W-2, TANF documentation, at least four pay check stubs, unemployment documentation, written statement from employers, foster care reimbursement, SSI documentation, notarized documentation of no income, food stamp printout, SSI/SS award letter, financial aid award letters and proof of residency via a utility bill or copy of lease.
