Worker at Cargill Salt killed Saturday Worker at Cargill Salt killed Saturday Acadiana bureau June 12, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — A superintendent working on a piece of equipment at Cargill Salt in Breaux Bridge died in an industrial accident Saturday evening, a Cargill official said. Cargill spokesman Mark Klein said Tuesday that Steve Rodrigue, a longtime employee, was found about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office, in a preliminary report, listed the cause of death as electrocution, Klein said. Rodrigue, whose age was not available, was working alone when the accident occurred, Klein said. “We have about 35 people employed at the plant,” Klein said in an email. “That we have a close-knit team plus Steve being a Cargill employee for more than 20 years makes this hard.” Klein said grief counselors visited the site on Monday. The facility is located on Saltmine Highway, outside the western edge of Breaux Bridge and about a mile south of Interstate 10. Klein said investigators with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are working with Cargill personnel to find out how the accident occurred.
