Jeanerette man wanted in shooting caught in BR

Authorities in Baton Rouge on Monday arrested a Jeanerette man wanted by police there in a shooting after receiving a tip that the man they were seeking was at the burn unit of Baton Rouge General Medical Center on Bluebonnet Boulevard.

Kendall George, 25, 1443 Washington St., was booked into the Baton Rouge City Jail on Monday on an active warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm, according to a Baton Rouge Constable’s Office news release.

Constable’s Office Capt. John Lawton said officers from the Jeanerette Police Department were on their way to Baton Rouge on Monday afternoon to pick up George.

Lawton said George was at the burn unit with his 18-month-old child who was being treated at the hospital.

Jeanerette Police Chief Marvin Grogan did not return two messages left at his office Monday seeking comment and further information was not available Monday afternoon on the shooting incident that led to the warrant.

Capt. Ryan Turner, with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the warrant for George’s arrest was initiated by Jeanerette police, and that sheriff’s officials were not working on the case.
