Speeding suspected in fatal St. Landry crash Speeding suspected in fatal St. Landry crash Acadiana bureau May 07, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — State Police say they suspect a woman from Sunset was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon too fast when she ran off the road and into a St. Landry Parish tree Tuesday morning. Investigators on Tuesday afternoon were trying to determine exactly when the crash that killed Chastity Nichol, 34, occurred, Trooper Stephen Hammons said in a news release. Hammons said Nichol was driving east on La. 356, left the road in a curve, crossed a private driveway and then crashed into a tree. Nichol, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hammons said. “Troopers suspect speed was a factor,” Hammons said. He said the crash remains under investigation.
