Arrest made in fatal shooting of teen in Lafayette Arrest made in fatal shooting of teen in Lafayette Advocate staff report March 27, 2013 Comments LAFAYETTE — Lafayette police Sunday arrested a 20-year-old man accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy in the front yard of a house at about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Hilda Street. Marquis Simmons was arrested and booked in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of second-degree murder, police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release. The victim, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital, Mouton said. The victim was standing in the yard when Simmons approached him, Mouton said. The victim ran, but Simmons shot him once, then fled, Mouton said. Additional details were not available. Simmons is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office website.
