NEW IBERIA — Iberia Parish detectives are investigating the killing of a woman on Tuesday who was stabbed multiple times, and the chief suspect is the woman’s 13-year-old stepson, Capt. Ryan Turner said Wednesday morning.
The boy was transported to St. James Juvenile Detention Center, where he is being held on a count of second-degree murder, Turner said.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect because he is a minor, Turner said. And the name of the victim, which is being withheld until relatives are notified, will be released by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office, he said.
According to an incident report released by the Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 34.
Turner said a friend of the victim arrived at the Loreauville Road home at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and called police to report that the attack was occurring.
When officers arrived, “the female victim had no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office,” the release stated.
Two neighbors said Wednesday they didn’t know something sinister had happened next door at 4615 Loreauville Road until later, when the woman who had called 911 talked to them.
Betty Guillot and her daughter-in-law Christie Guillot said the woman told them she saw the boy wearing a mask while walking down stairs toward her, holding a bloody knife.
“After that, she got so scared, she had to lock herself inside one of the rooms” to get away from the boy, Betty Guillot said.
The Guillots said they don’t know the name of the woman who had called 911.
“I’m still upset,” Betty Guillot said. “I never thought it would happen here, like on TV.”
The Acadian-style home sits a few hundred feet off Loreauville Road, or La. 86, with the tranquil Bayou Teche at the home’s rear.
