LAFAYETTE — A number of agencies are investigating the death of 28-year-old man whose body was found in a Carencro home that was consumed by an early-morning fire Sunday on Collins Street, the Lafayette Fire Department reported in a release.
Swawn Woods was pronounced dead at the scene of the 112 Collins St. home he shared with his father, James Harris, Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said in the release.
Harris was not at home at the time of the blaze, Trahan said.
“When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the eaves and roof of the single-family dwelling,” Trahan said. “Shortly afterwards, the fire vented through the roof of the structure.”
Trahan said the cause of Woods’ death and the cause of the fire are being investigated. There were no smoke detectors in the home, he said.
Trahan said Lafayette and Carencro firefighters received the call at 5:41 a.m.
Among those investigating the incident are Lafayette fire investigators, the Carencro Police Department, Lafayette Metro Crime Scene investigators, the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office and the Lafayette Coroner’s Office, Trahan said.
