Lafayette man held in Wednesday killing
LAFAYETTE — Police arrested a 20-year-old Lafayette man Thursday in the Wednesday morning shooting death of 22-year-old Isiah Morgan.
Officers found Morgan’s body at the intersection of Goldman and Division streets at 12:30 a.m., police have said.
Witnesses told police that Morgan, of the 2500 block of Louisiana Avenue, was arguing with another man when the assailant produced a handgun and fired one shot, striking the victim.
Police have said one or two people were outside when the shooting occurred.
Detectives arrested Wilbert Joseph Simon Jr. without incident after he was questioned about the shooting, Lafayette police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said.
Detectives have not yet determined what caused the fight between the two men, Mouton said.
Simon was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of second-degree murder, Mouton said.
His bail has been set at $250,000, according to online jail records.
Simon’s affidavit for a warrant of arrest was not available Thursday afternoon at the jail.
The case remains under investigation, Mouton said.
