‘Healer’s Garden’ on display
The Vermilionville living history museum and Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners have launched a gardening exhibit that explores the traditional use of plants for healing in south Louisiana.
The “Healer’s Garden” project was guided largely by local home remedies that were documented in the 1930s, according to information from Vermilionville.
Vermilionville, located off Fisher Road near the Lafayette Regional Airport, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Sheriff’s summer camp
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold free youth summer camps in five-day sessions beginning June 4.
The camps are open to students entering middle school and high school, and the dates of each session are based on the student’s grade level.
Attendance is limited and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Memorial Day concert
The Lafayette Concert Band will perform a free Memorial Day “Songs of Remembrance” concert at 3:30 p.m. May 27 in Angelle Hall at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Junior League grant
The Junior League of Lafayette has awarded the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana a $25,000 grant to provide food for students of Alice Boucher Elementary to take home.
The “Lagniappe BackPack” program will fill the backpacks of 111 at-risk students with nutritious food each week, according to a news release from the Junior League.
Meet Cinderella
The cast of the Acadia Players’ upcoming performance of “Cinderella” will be available for pictures and conversation from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Grand Opera House of the South in Crowley. Families are invited to bring their cameras and come dressed in costume.

Symphony camps
The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music is offering a range of summer sessions for children focusing on theater, music, exploring and visual arts.
The first five-day sessions begin June 4, and offerings are available for children ages 4 through 17.

Music fundraiser
The Lafayette Friends of Music will host a “Hollywood Jazz” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Burke-Hawthorne Theater at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Tickets are $25 and are available at the ULL School of Music, Lafayette Music Company or at the door.
Proceeds help pay for ULL music student scholarships.
