Second suspect charged in rape of two teens
LAFAYETTE — A second suspect in the alleged rape of two underage girls on Sunday at a University of Louisiana at Lafayette apartment complex turned himself in to authorities Thursday after a warrant was issued for his arrest, Sgt. Billy Abrams, a university police spokesman, said in a news release.
Chukwuemeka Anyanwu, 20, turned himself into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and was booked on two counts of aggravated rape, Abrams said.
On Tuesday, university police arrested ULL student Pierre A. Sherrard, who was booked on two counts of aggravated rape for an alleged sexual assault involving two teens, ages 16 and 17, in Sherrard’s Legacy Park apartment, university police said.
Information obtained during the investigation led to Anyanwu’s identification as a suspect, Abrams said. Abrams said in an email that Anyanwu is also a ULL student but he and Sherrard were not roommates.
