Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to sort food for the 19th annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive, in partnership with United Way of Acadiana, the U.S. Postal Service and Food Net.

To donate food, place a bag of nonperishable food next to your mailbox on May 12.

Picasso’s Attic sale

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum hosts the benefit Picasso’s Attic Art Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The free event will be held at the museum, 710 E. St. Mary Blvd., Lafayette.

Art and prints ranging from $15 to $200 are available for purchase.

Art competition

The Congressional Institute is sponsoring a nationwide high school visual art competition.

Residents can honor young south Louisiana artists by voting in the 2012 3rd District Congressional Art Competition and posting the comment “Best” on the picture they most like on http://www.facebook.com/repjefflandry.

In June, the first-place winner will fly to Washington and see his or her artwork unveiled in the Cannon Tunnel.

Bon Couer party

Camp Bon Couer hosts its Hearty Party on May 10 at Vermilionville in Lafayette as a benefit for the group’s efforts to send youngsters with heart defects to its summer camp.

A minimum donation of $25 will grant donors access to dinner, music by the Michot-Courville Band, Delta Papa and The Josh Taylor Band, and a silent auction.

Sheriff’s scholarship

The deadline for St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronald J. Theriot’s college scholarship has been extended until 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Theriot will award three $1,000 college scholarships to one senior each at Breaux Bridge High School, St. Martinville High School and Cecilia High School. The winners will be announced May 31.
