Sharing the loot

Lafayette revelers put in a full day of work for beads and other bounty thrown from riders during the city’s Mardi Gras parades.

The King’s Parade featuring King Gabriel LXXIII Thomas Reginald Hightower Jr. led the trio of parades followed by floats from the Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade and the KADN/KLAF Independent Parade.

The city’s celebration is a family-friendly affair, said Cindy McCarty of Lafayette, who took an afternoon break from the route with her two grandsons, Brody Boudreaux, 12, and Trevor Carter, 2.

“We enjoy the gathering of people and friends,” McCarty said.

And Brody enjoyed spending the day gathering Mardi Gras loot.

“I share with him,” he said, referring to the toddler.
