Two suspects held
in camp burglaries
Investigators with the St. Martin and Iberville Parish sheriff’s offices arrested two men in 13 camp burglaries in the Atchafalaya Basin, according to a news release.
Authorities arrested Tracey Lee Burgess, 45, Gross Tete, and Steven Paul Thibodeaux, 23, Plaquemine, on 13 counts of criminal trespass, 13 counts of simple burglary and one count of second-degree kidnapping.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that investigators learned that Burgess’ ex-wife was being held against her will for several days during the burglaries.
The woman suffered minor injuries allegedly inflicted by Burgess, the release said.
The burglaries occurred in the Lake Chicot, Phillips Canal and Bayou Sorrel areas, the release said.
Maj. Ginny Higgins, spokeswoman for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the burglars stole tools, clothing and an ice chest believed to be valued at about $3,000.
Investigators have recovered and returned several items, the release said.
