High court disbars former assistant DA

The Louisiana Supreme Court has disbarred Joseph Floyd Johnson, a former assistant district attorney who was sentenced last year to 18 in months in prison for a federal tax evasion conviction.

The high court ordered Friday that the disbarment be made retroactive to Dec. 7, 2010, the date of Johnson’s interim suspension, according to the ruling.

Johnson, 51, pleaded guilty to one felony count of tax evasion on Nov. 10, 2010. A federal judge in June sentenced Johnson to serve 18 months in prison and ordered him to pay about $180,000 in restitution.

Johnson served as an assistant district attorney with the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office from 1995 to 2010.

Johnson is scheduled to be released from federal prison Oct. 25, according to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons website.

He is incarcerated at the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Johnson will be placed on three years of supervised probation upon his release from prison.
