Police identify teen killed in stabbing
LAFAYETTE — Police on Monday identified the victim in the Saturday morning stabbing outside of Café Habana as 19-year-old Alex Castillo, of Opelousas.
Soamer Notier Rivera Soriano, 25, allegedly stabbed Castillo outside of the restaurant after the two men exited the business at closing time, Lafayette police said in a news release.
Two police officers working outside the business at 911 Bertrand Drive chased Soriano and captured him about a block away.
The cause of the disturbance remains under investigation, police said.
Soriano was booked Saturday into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of second-degree murder.
Charges upgraded
in fatal bar fight
PATTERSON — Authorities have arrested 19-year-old Patterson man on one count of manslaughter in a Friday morning fight that led to the death of a teenager.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in a news release said Cameron Gragg died Sunday from injuries he suffered during the fight at Jessie B. Hayes Boat Landing.
The Sheriff’s Office said Gragg was struck in the head with a bat during a fight with Bannon L. Lightsey, 320 Camille Drive, Patterson.
Lightsey was being held on a count aggravated second-degree battery before his arrest Monday. He remains in the parish jail with bail set at $500,000.
