New housing slated for blind, disabled
LAFAYETTE — The Affiliated Blind of Louisiana Training Center announced Monday the start of construction on a 32-unit apartment complex for blind, physically disabled and other special-needs residents.
Construction of the $3.8 million Daigle House Apartments project on West Willow Street is scheduled to be complete by the summer, according to a news release.
The project includes 16 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units, common areas, an office, space for outdoor eating and a playground.
It is funded mainly with federal money for affordable housing in areas impacted by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Affiliated Blind offers services and training to visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind residents at a facility on St. Mary Boulevard .
