BR lawyer admits to child porn charge in federal court

A Baton Rouge lawyer accused in May of receiving child pornography over a three-year span pleaded guilty Thursday in federal district court.

William Steven Mannear, 62, faces a prison term of five to 20 years, said his attorney, Jim Boren.

U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick did not set a sentencing date.

Prosecutors alleged in a bill of information that Mannear used a computer to knowingly receive child porn from August 2009 through September 2012.

The FBI, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigated the matter.
