Aug 12, 2014 18:54 State police investigating fatal Acadia Parish crash State police investigating fatal Acadia Parish crash KATC-TV staff report Aug. 12, 2014 Comments A single-vehicle crash Wednesday night on La. 97 near Barwick Road in Acadia Parish killed one man and injured another man, officials said. The two occupants of the vehicle both were transported to local hospitals after being ejected during the crash shortly after 9:30 p.m. State Police Troop I investigators determined that 42-year-old Joseph Joseph II had been driving a 2009 Chevrolet truck south on La. 9 the truck exited the roadway to the right, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release. He said the vehicle came back onto the roadway then swerved to the left. He said the Chevrolet overturned in a ditch, coming to rest on its roof. Joseph and passenger Eric Bergeaux, 34 and from Basile, were not wearing seat belts. Joseph later died in a hospital, and Bergeaux on Thursday remained in a hospital with moderate injuries. David said the crash remains under investigation, and toxicology results are pending to determine if the driver might have been impaired.
