The value of the investment was not disclosed. Omega Protein, based in Houston, produces omega-3 fish oil and specialty protein products. The new dryer and cooling tower is expected to improve efficiency and allow the company to increase the volume that can be processed during peak fishing periods. The project is expected to be completed for the start of the 2015 fishing season. “The decision to dedicate additional funding to the Abbeville facility will allow Omega Protein to modernize the plant, and also shows our continuing commitment to our Gulf Coast fishing operations and our employees,” said Omega Protein President and CEO Bret Scholtes.
