State Police search for Breaux Bridge man who escaped custody

State Police said they are searching for a man who was detained for questioning at the Breaux Bridge substation Sunday morning, but who escaped within hours after he unlocked his jail cell with an unknown object.

Gary Abram, 35, walked out of the substation about 2 p.m., and in the ensuing hours police were stopping all cars leaving the area, said Master Trooper Brooks David, a State Police spokesman.

David said Abram had not yet been booked when he escaped. Detectives had not concluded their investigation so it was unclear on what counts he was to be booked, David said.
