Acadiana crime blotter for Aug. 2, 2014

Two Patterson men and a third unidentified person led St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase Thursday night that caused their vehicle to crash into a stop sign before they tried to run away.

Tarell Boulanger, 23, and Jeremy Hall, 24, both from Patterson, were booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on drug and other counts, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said. Landry said detectives Friday morning were trying to identify the third person, who fled and was not caught by deputies.

Hall was driving with Boulanger and the other person as passengers on U.S. 90 in Patterson when deputies tried to pull them over.

“The driver of the vehicle failed to pull over and accelerated to a high rate of speed,” Landry said. “The driver lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to turn onto Zenor Road and struck a stop sign.”

Landry said the three jumped out of the vehicle before it came to a stop

Boulanger and Hall ran through yards where children were playing before they were caught, with Hall being captured after he ran into a house “alarming the residents,” Landry said.

The pair was booked after 7 p.m. Thursday on multiple felony counts, including possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute. Hall also was booked on a count of hit and run driving.

Landry said both men are in jail on no bail.

Man shot in face following fracas

A fight that started at a Scott nightclub escalated to a shooting near Rayne early Friday that sent a 21-year-old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his face.

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Maxine Trahan said the shooting occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Tanner Road in Acadia Parish after an earlier altercation at Cowboy’s Night Club in Scott.

Trahan said people in three vehicles were involved. Trahan did not say how many people were involved. The victim, whose wound was described as non-life threatening, was transported to Lafayette Regional Medical Center. The victim was not immediately identified.

Officers with the Lafayette and Scott police departments are assisting in the investigation.
