Man convicted of killing brother

A St. Mary Parish jury Thursday convicted a 28-year-old Berwick man of first-degree murder for killing his brother in 2007, a decision reached by the jury in 45 minutes, an official said.

Christopher Horton, 28, was found guilty of tying Adam Horton with electrical cords and stabbing him in the chest at Adam Horton’s residence in Bayou Vista, 16th Judicial District First Assistant District Attorney Bo Duhe said.

St. Mary Parish sheriff’s detectives began investigating on Sept. 3, 2007, after Adam Horton’s burned automobile was found at Wilson’s Landing still smoldering.

The trial began Monday and wrapped up Thursday with the conviction, Duhe said in a news release.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 27.
