Morgan City police at 4:28 a.m. Thursday arrested Michael J. Dines, 43, on counts of illegal discharge of a firearm and resisting an officer, Capt. James Blair said. The victim called police from a bedroom as Dines, who had a gun, was trying to break into the front door of the Fourth Street residence, Blair said in a news release. Dines refused orders by arriving police to drop the gun and surrender with his hands raised. “Officers were able to determine that the subject no longer possessed the weapon and attempted to take the subject into custody, however, Dines refused to cooperate and had to be physically subdued,” Blair said. The victim emerged from the bedroom and told police that Dines earlier had fired the .45-caliber handgun inside the home, he said. Danes was booked into the city jail. No bail amount had been set Thursday morning.
