One killed after pickup truck veers off I-10 near Rayne One killed after pickup truck veers off I-10 near Rayne Advocate staff report July 23, 2014 Comments RAYNE — One woman died Wednesday afternoon in Acadia Parish after a pickup truck hauling a triple-axle trailer veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The accident occurred while Sandra Farris, 47, of Roxana, Illinois, was with her husband, Robert Farris, 55, and daughter Marissa Farris, 19, heading east on Interstate 10 near Rayne in a truck hauling a trailer that held two large propellers, said Master Trooper Brooks David, a state police spokesman. When Robert Farris tried to pass a car, the trailer his truck was pulling shifted, and the trailer began to sway. The shifting led to the truck to lose control, and the truck drove off the roadway and into a tree, David said. Sandra Farris, who was riding in the back seat, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one in the car was wearing a seatbelt, David said. Robert and Marissa Farris were taken to American Legion Hospital with minor injuries, David said. Impairment is not thought to be a factor.
