Two arrested in aiding man accused in slaying of deputy Two arrested in aiding man accused in slaying of deputy Suspect found at Abbeville home Advocate staff report June 30, 2014 Comments State Police made two more arrests in the slaying of a Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputy, booking a man and a woman said to have helped one of the suspects in the killing evade capture. Authorities late Tuesday booked the woman, Quintygi Richard, 24, of Kaplan, and Miguel Comeaux, 28, Abbeville, into the Vermilion Parish Jail on accessory after the fact in a first-degree murder. The two are accused of helping Quintylan Richard, 20, elude capture Monday after Vermilion deputy Allen Bares Jr. was shot to death. Quintylan Richard and Baylon Taylor, 20, are accused of first-degree murder in Bares’ slaying. Comeaux surrendered at the Abbeville Police Department just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Quintygi Richard was arrested at an Abbeville home. State Police Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said he did not know the nature of the relationship between Quintygi Richard and Quintylan Richard. According to police reports, Bares drove up on Quintylan Richard and Taylor on South Hospital Drive south of Abbeville, where the two had wedged a car in a ditch — presumably after burglarizing a home near where Bares had just mowed a lawn. Bares, who was off-duty, called dispatchers at the Sheriff’s Office to report two suspicious men before getting out of his truck to confront them. The 12-year veteran deputy was shot multiple times. Bares, 51, later died from his injuries at Abbeville General Hospital. Later that day, authorities found Hammons’ pickup abandoned off Miles Street in Abbeville. That night, they located Taylor and persuaded him to surrender. Quintylan Richard, who was on parole, was captured at a residence in Kaplan following Taylor’s arrest. They were both booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on counts of first-degree murder of a police officer, unauthorized use of a moveable and burglary. Services for Bares are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church in Abbeville. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Erath. Visitation is at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. Friday until the service.
